The benefits of going solar are not just contributing to a cleaner environment by generating green energy, there are also many financial incentives in place that make going solar a lucrative investment. There are many reasons why investing in a solar PV system makes sense for a growing number of homeowners and business owners on Cape Cod, Nantucket and the south shore. Because of the robust incentive programs in Massachusetts, we find that the majority of residential customers see a 5yr - 6.5yr return on investment while commercial customers can see an R.O.I. of 3.5yrs – 5 years.

CREDITS AND REBATES

The Federal Tax Credit was recently increased from 26% to 30%, the state of Massachusetts offers a $1,000 income tax credit for those that pay income tax in MA, the Town of Nantucket increased their rebate for a solar system installed on your primary residence up to $6,000. Business owners can also depreciate their solar investment using (MACRS) “modified accelerated cost recovery system” and receive an additional large tax credit to help improve the financial payback period for any alternative energy system.

When combined, these incentives make it a great time to go solar!

On top of that, there are savings provided by net metering. Simply put, net metering means that the homeowner/ business owner is credited for any excess energy that is generated by the solar system, in effect spinning your meter backwards, and that energy is credited on your electric bill. With a properly-sized system, you can offset your entire electric bill.

Solar Renewable Energy Certificate Program
(REC Program)

Comparison of a sample electric bill before and after net metering. Data from a customer’s electric bill and shows their projected annual energy production. See how your bill can compare with and without solar, contact SunWind today to get started.

The Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER), in conjunction with the participating electric utilities, is setting their sights even higher for the most energy-efficient state in the nation by offering Solar Renewable Energy Certificate Program. When enrolled you will receive a monthly payment for ALL of the solar power generated monthly! This is anticipated to be a 10 year program from the date your system begins to generate electricity. It is quite literally the “icing on the cake” allowing you to monetize your solar energy production in the form of credits that are paid out for each megawatt-hour (MWH) of energy produced over 10 years. SunWind facilitates the process of enrolling customers into the REC program, to learn more about the incentives contact us today.

The Process

We consult with each of our customers to discuss the best energy solution and financing scenario based on their budget, energy consumptions, and design preferences. We handle everything from the paperwork with the utility company, design and engineering, permitting, installation and close-out documents and getting the most out of your tax credits, rebates and other available incentives.

  • Following a site visit in which we measure and assess the condition of the roof (for roof-mounted systems), analyze the composition and slope of the terrain (for ground-mounts), and complete a shading analysis, we will send you a detailed easy to follow proposal.

  • Upon approval from the customer, we begin the permitting process and applying for approval from all authority-having jurisdictions (such as homeowners’ associations, historical committees, etc.) as needed.

  • Once the project is permitted, we schedule an installation date with the customer and an expected completion date.

  • After completion of the install, we schedule the inspections, get you interconnected to the utility grid and handle all the paperwork to make sure you get the most of all available incentives.
